Simple

You ask how

Someone as intelligent as I

Could believe in Jesus, the Son of God;

To you, a fantasy—a lie.

It’s quite simple,

you see,

That I should dare

To choose light over dark

And hope to despair.

Truth to deception

Reverence to disdain

Caring over apathy

And giving to gain.

Faithfulness to betrayal

Purpose to fate

Forgiveness, not vengeance;

Love over hate.

Health to disease

Gratitude to envy

Life, not death,

And peace over fury.

If for these things

A fool you judge me to be

Then naive I remain

Instead of one in misery.

I invite you to consider

And not to despise

Joining the band

Of the foolishly wise.
