This Generation

When did it become fashion to mock purity;

To reward those who slander another’s good name?

For leaders to cheer the slaughter of the innocent

And extol the deeds of the shameless?

How did so many come to call good, evil, and

Show high regard for the wicked?

That those charged with guarding the weak

Should betray their trust and conceal evil deeds?

When it seems that those who remain true

Are nowhere to be found,

And the masses dumbly nod their heads;

What can the just do against such indifference and deceit?

Let every man and woman of honor

Be unafraid to stand for the truth.

In this, we imitate our Lord and

Surrender ourselves to his protection.

A lament based on Psalm 12.
