In recent years, Church leaders have stepped up their efforts to promote evangelization, called “New” because of a change of focus in its participants and methods. While some parishes have adopted innovative approaches to promoting the Gospel, my experience suggests that despite the added emphasis, we have not made much progress in the area of personal evangelization. Our failure to make headway is not a matter for blame but should lead us to step back and try to appreciate the barriers we face.
Others have created great resources to guide disciples toward becoming effective witnesses for Christ. Rather than repeating this work, I hope to explore the barriers that hold us back and offer practical solutions to promoting evangelization in our lives personally and as parish communities.
