Parish transformation is synonymous with experiencing conversion to Christ as a church community. Just as for each disciple, it is a process that will never end until Christ comes again. I prefer this term to “renewal” or its newer variant, “renovation,” because some may see these expressions as just bringing the parish back to a previous, better state. If the Spirit draws every disciple to ongoing conversion, you can be sure that he is also calling us to the same as a community.
But how to go forward? Concerned parish leaders have worked tirelessly to bring about transformation. I think it is clear that no single program will do. Current efforts to increase engagement have born some fruit, but I believe we can go further with a pastoral approach based on continuing conversion. Parish transformation will be the topic of a future book, and I will use this site to publish supplemental resources to aid parish leaders.
